Hello and welcome to the first edition of Spotlight Stables series. This is a series where I will be showing some models I don't own (maybe I will one day) and talk a bit about them. There are going to be many different models but I think I have chosen a great first one!
Without further ado, I will talk about Masquerade. Breyer started making some high quality models in their headquarters during the 2001-2009 period. Collectors could enter a drawing via the Just About Horses Magazine and then 350 lucky collectors were chosen so they could pay for the model and get it. It worked like the collector club web specials! There were a total 50 models in the connoisseur series and Masquerade was the 5th which was released in September/ October of 2001. The original price was just $95 and the crazy part is that nowadays he is selling for almost +-1000 USD!!
This specific model with the No.90114 was done on the Missouri Fox Trotter mold (#486) by Kathleen Moody who was also the sculptor of that specific mold.
An interesting horse that Breyer shared a while ago is a test in that color but on the Pacer mold by Chris Hess. Kathleen also mentioned that she painted that test in May 2001 and she nicknamed it Picasso. Nowadays, tis first draft of the mold is living in the Breyer Archive room - a room every collector wants to visit one day!
Every person who bought Masquerade got a certificate of authenticity that numbered what number each was from 1 to 350. Moreover, every horse has a number written under one of their hooves.
But before ending this post, I couldn't leave out the mini version of Masquerade. In 2006, a set featuring 5 mini versions of the connoisseur models was released. There were 3000 sets with the name Miniature Connoisseur Collection. All sets came with a COA.
The model number is 701706 and is done on the Thoroughbred G2 (#5602) mold.
